Getting spice client console working in Virt-Manager for Mint 19

Posted on September 16, 2018 by Vitaly Posted in Linux, Tech, Ubuntu

So the rest of the stuff works fairly easily, however due to renaming, there’s a good chance in Linux Mint 19.X, running the latest version of virt-manager of this writing (1.5.1) you might run into the error:

"Error connecting to graphical console: Error opening spice console, SpiceClientGtk missing"

The package needed for virt-manager/viewer to properly open up a spice console is

sudo apt install gir1.2-spiceclientgtk-3.0

You’ll need to restart the Virt-Manager instance after this, but should pop up right away.
